1  I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your ^gwonderful deeds.

2  I will be glad and ^hexult in you;

I will ⁱsing praise to your name, ^jO Most High.

3  When my enemies turn back,

they stumble and perish before³ your presence.

4  For you have ^kmaintained my just cause;

you have ^lsat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.

5  You have ^mrebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;

you have ⁿblotted out their name forever and ever.

6  The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;

their cities you rooted out;

the very memory of them has perished.

7  But the Lord sits enthroned forever;

he has established his throne for justice,

8  and he ^ojudges the world with righteousness;

he ^pjudges the peoples with uprightness.

9  The Lord is ^qa stronghold for ^rthe oppressed,

a stronghold in ^stimes of trouble.

10  And those who ^tknow your name put their trust in you,

for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

11  Sing praises to the Lord, who ^usits enthroned in Zion!

Tell among the peoples his ^vdeeds!

12  For he who ^wavenges blood is mindful of them;

he ^xdoes not forget the cry of the afflicted.

1  I love you, O Lord, my strength.

2  The Lord is my ⁱrock and my ^jfortress and my deliverer,

my God, my ⁱrock, in ^kwhom I take refuge,

my ^lshield, and ^mthe horn of my salvation, my ⁿstronghold.

3  I call upon the Lord, who is ^oworthy to be praised,

and I am saved from my enemies.

4  ^pThe cords of death encompassed me;

^qthe torrents of destruction assailed me;¹

5  ^pthe cords of Sheol entangled me;

the snares of death confronted me.

6  ^rIn my distress I called upon the Lord;

to my God I cried for help.

From his ^stemple he heard my voice,

and my cry to him reached his ears.

7  Then the earth ^treeled and rocked;

the foundations also of the mountains trembled

and quaked, because he was angry.

8  Smoke went up from his nostrils,²

and devouring ^ufire from his mouth;

glowing coals flamed forth from him.

9  He ^vbowed the heavens and ^wcame down;

^xthick darkness was under his feet.

10  He rode on a cherub and flew;

he came swiftly on ^zthe wings of the wind.

11  He made darkness his covering, his ^acanopy around him,

thick clouds ^bdark with water.

12  Out of the brightness before him

^chailstones and coals of fire broke through his clouds.

13  The Lord also ^dthundered in the heavens,

and the Most High uttered his ^evoice,

hailstones and coals of fire.

14  And he sent out his ^farrows and scattered them;

he flashed forth lightnings and ^grouted them.

15  Then ^hthe channels of the sea were seen,

and the foundations of the world were laid bare

at your ⁱrebuke, O Lord,

at the blast of ^jthe breath of your nostrils.

16  He ^ksent from on high, he took me;

he ^ldrew me out of ^mmany waters.

17  He rescued me from my strong enemy

and from those who hated me,

for they were ⁿtoo mighty for me.

18  They confronted me in the day of my calamity,

but the Lord was my support.

19  He brought me out into ^oa broad place;

he rescued me, because he ^pdelighted in me.

20  The Lord dealt with me ^qaccording to my righteousness;

according to ^rthe cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.

21  For I have ^skept the ways of the Lord,

and have not wickedly departed from my God.

22  For ^tall his rules³ were before me,

and his statutes I did not put away from me.

23  I was ^ublameless before him,

and I kept myself from my guilt.

24  So the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,

according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

25  With ^vthe merciful you show yourself merciful;

with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;

26  with the purified you show yourself pure;

and with ^wthe crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.

27  For you save ^xa humble people,

but ^ythe haughty eyes you bring down.

28  For it is you who light my ^zlamp;

the Lord my God lightens my darkness.

29  For by you I can run against a troop,

and by my God I can ^aleap over ^ba wall.

30  This God—his way is ^cperfect;⁴

the word of the Lord ^dproves true;

he is ^ea shield for all those who ^ftake refuge in him.

31  For ^gwho is God, but the Lord?

And who is ^ha rock, except our God?—

32  the God who ⁱequipped me with strength

and made my way ^jblameless.

33  He made my feet like the feet of a ^kdeer

and set me secure on ^lthe heights.

34  He ^mtrains my hands for war,

so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

35  You have given me the shield of your salvation,

and your right hand ⁿsupported me,

and your ^ogentleness made me great.

36  You ^pgave a wide place for my steps under me,

and my feet did not slip.

37  I pursued my enemies and overtook them,

and did not turn back till they were consumed.

38  I thrust them through, so that they were not able to rise;

they fell under my feet.

39  For you equipped me with strength for the battle;

you made those who rise against me sink under me.

40  You made my enemies ^qturn their backs to me,⁵

and those who hated me I destroyed.

41  ^rThey cried for help, but there was none to save;

they cried to the Lord, but he did not answer them.

42  I beat them fine as ^sdust before the wind;

I cast them out like ^tthe mire of the streets.

43  You delivered me from ^ustrife with the people;

you made me ^vthe head of the nations;

^wpeople whom I had not known served me.

44  As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me;

^xforeigners ^ycame cringing to me.

45  ^xForeigners lost heart

and ^zcame trembling out of their fortresses.

46  The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock,

and exalted be the God of my salvation—

47  the God who gave me vengeance

and ^asubdued peoples under me,

48  who rescued me from my enemies;

yes, you ^bexalted me above those who rose against me;

you delivered me from ^cthe man of violence.

49  ^dFor this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations,

and ^esing to your name.

50  Great ^fsalvation he brings to his king,

and shows steadfast love to his ^ganointed,

to ^hDavid and his offspring forever.

1  I will ^sextol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up

and have not let my foes ^trejoice over me.

2  O Lord my God, I ^ucried to you for help,

and you have ^vhealed me.

3  O Lord, you have brought up my soul from ^wSheol;

you restored me to life from among those who ^xgo down to the pit.¹

4  Sing praises to the Lord, O you ^yhis saints,

and ^zgive thanks to his holy name.²

5  ^aFor his anger is but for a moment,

and ^bhis favor is for a lifetime.³

^cWeeping may tarry for the night,

but ^djoy comes with the morning.

6  As for me, I said in my ^eprosperity,

“I shall never be ^fmoved.”

7  By your favor, O Lord,

you made my ^gmountain stand strong;

you ^hhid your face;

I was ⁱdismayed.

8  To you, O Lord, I cry,

and ^jto the Lord I plead for mercy:

9  “What profit is there in my death,⁴

if I go down to the pit?⁵

Will ^kthe dust praise you?

Will it tell of your faithfulness?

10  ^lHear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!

O Lord, be my helper!”

11  You have turned for me my mourning into ^mdancing;

you have loosed my sackcloth

and clothed me with gladness,

12  that my ⁿglory may sing your praise and not be silent.

O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

1  ^jBlessed is the one whose ^ktransgression is forgiven,

whose sin is covered.

2  Blessed is the man against whom the Lord ^lcounts no iniquity,

and in whose spirit ^mthere is no deceit.

3  For when I kept silent, my ⁿbones wasted away

through my ^ogroaning all day long.

4  For day and night your ^phand was heavy upon me;

my strength was dried up² as by the heat of summer. Selah

5  I ^qacknowledged my sin to you,

and I did not cover my iniquity;

I said, “I ^rwill confess my transgressions to the Lord,”

and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

6  Therefore let everyone who is ^sgodly

offer prayer to you at a time when you ^tmay be found;

surely in the rush of ^ugreat waters,

they shall not reach him.

7  You are a ^vhiding place for me;

you preserve me from ^wtrouble;

you surround me with ^xshouts of deliverance. Selah

8  I will ^yinstruct you and teach you in the way you should go;

I will ^zcounsel you with my eye upon you.

9  ^aBe not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,

which must be curbed with ^bbit and bridle,

or it will not stay near you.

10  ^cMany are the sorrows of the wicked,

but steadfast love surrounds the one who ^dtrusts in the Lord.

11  ^eBe glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,

and ^fshout for joy, all you ^gupright in heart!

1  I will bless the Lord ^pat all times;

his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2  My soul ^qmakes its boast in the Lord;

let the humble hear and ^rbe glad.

3  Oh, ^smagnify the Lord with me,

and let us exalt his name together!

4  I ^tsought the Lord, and he answered me

and delivered me from all my fears.

5  Those who look to him are ^uradiant,

and their faces shall never be ashamed.

6  ^vThis poor man cried, and the Lord heard him

and ^wsaved him out of all his troubles.

7  ^xThe angel of the Lord ^yencamps

around those who fear him, and delivers them.

8  Oh, ^ztaste and see that ^athe Lord is good!

^bBlessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

9  Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,

for those who fear him have no lack!

10  ^cThe young lions suffer want and hunger;

but those who ^dseek the Lord lack no good thing.

11  ^eCome, O children, listen to me;

^fI will teach you the fear of the Lord.

12  ^gWhat man is there who desires life

and loves many days, that he may ^hsee good?

13  ⁱKeep your tongue from evil

and your lips from ^jspeaking deceit.

14  ^kTurn away from evil and do good;

seek peace and ^lpursue it.

15  ^mThe eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous

ⁿand his ears toward their cry.

16  ^oThe face of the Lord is against those who do evil,

to ^pcut off the memory of them from the earth.

17  ⁿWhen the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears

and delivers them out of all their troubles.

18  The Lord is near to ^qthe brokenhearted

and saves ^rthe crushed in spirit.

19  ^sMany are the afflictions of the righteous,

^tbut the Lord delivers him out of them all.

20  He keeps all his bones;

^unot one of them is broken.

21  ^vAffliction will slay the wicked,

and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.

22  The Lord ^wredeems the life of his servants;

none of those who take refuge in him will be ^xcondemned.

1  I ^uwaited patiently for the Lord;

he inclined to me and ^vheard my cry.

2  He drew me up from ^wthe pit of destruction,

out of ^xthe miry bog,

and ^yset my feet upon a rock,

^zmaking my steps secure.

3  He put ^aa new song in my mouth,

a song of praise to our God.

Many will ^bsee and fear,

and put their trust in the Lord.

4  Blessed is the man who ^cmakes

the Lord his trust,

who does not turn to the proud,

to those who ^dgo astray after a lie!

5  You have multiplied, O Lord my God,

your ^ewondrous deeds and your ^fthoughts toward us;

none can compare with you!

I will proclaim and tell of them,

yet they are ^gmore than can be told.

6  ^hIn sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,

but you have given me an open ⁱear.¹

Burnt offering and sin offering

you have not required.

7  Then I said, “Behold, I have come;

in the scroll of the book it is written ^jof me:

8  ^kI delight to do your will, O my God;

your law is ^lwithin my heart.”

9  I have told the glad news of deliverance²

in ^mthe great congregation;

behold, I have not ⁿrestrained my lips,

^oas you know, O Lord.

10  I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;

I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;

I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness

from the great congregation.

11  As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain

your mercy from me;

your ^psteadfast love and your faithfulness will

ever preserve me!

1  ^eBlessed is the one who considers the poor!¹

^fIn the day of trouble the Lord delivers him;

2  the Lord protects him and keeps him alive;

he is called blessed in the land;

you ^gdo not give him up to the will of his enemies.

3  The Lord sustains him on his sickbed;

in his illness you restore him to full health.²

4  As for me, I said, “O Lord, ^hbe gracious to me;

ⁱheal me,³ for I have sinned against you!”

5  My enemies say of me in malice,

“When will he die, and his name perish?”

6  And when one comes to see me, ^jhe utters empty words,

while his heart gathers iniquity;

when he goes out, he tells it abroad.

7  All who hate me whisper together about me;

they imagine the worst for me.⁴

8  They say, “A deadly thing is poured out⁵ on him;

he will not rise again from where he lies.”

9  Even my ^kclose friend in whom I trusted,

who ^late my bread, has lifted his heel against me.

10  But you, O Lord, be gracious to me,

and raise me up, that I may repay them!

11  By this I know that ^myou delight in me:

my enemy will not shout in triumph over me.

12  But ⁿyou have upheld me because of ^omy integrity,

and ^pset me in your presence ^qforever.

13  ^rBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,

from everlasting to everlasting!

13  I will come into your house with burnt offerings;

I will ^pperform my vows to you,

14  that which my lips uttered

and my mouth promised ^qwhen I was in trouble.

15  I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals,

with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams;

I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah

16  ^rCome and hear, all you who fear God,

and I will tell what he has done for my soul.

17  I cried to him with my mouth,

and high praise was on¹ my tongue.²

18  If I had ^scherished iniquity in my heart,

^tthe Lord would not have listened.

19  But truly ^uGod has listened;

he has attended to the voice of my prayer.

20  Blessed be God,

because he has not rejected my prayer

or removed his steadfast love from me!

1  ^fIt is good to give thanks to the Lord,

to sing praises to your name, ^gO Most High;

2  to declare your ^hsteadfast love in ⁱthe morning,

and your ^hfaithfulness by ⁱnight,

3  to the music of ^jthe lute and ^jthe harp,

to the melody of ^jthe lyre.

4  For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your ^kwork;

at ^lthe works of your hands I sing for joy.

5  How ^mgreat are your works, O Lord!

Your ⁿthoughts are very ^odeep!

6  The stupid man cannot know;

the fool cannot understand this:

7  that though ^pthe wicked sprout like grass

and all ^qevildoers flourish,

they are doomed to destruction forever;

8  but you, O Lord, are ^ron high forever.

9  For behold, your enemies, O Lord,

for behold, your enemies shall perish;

all evildoers shall be ^sscattered.

10  But you have exalted my ^thorn like that of ^uthe wild ox;

you have ^vpoured over me¹ fresh oil.

11  My ^weyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;

my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

12  ^xThe righteous flourish like the palm tree

and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

13  They are planted in the house of the Lord;

they flourish in ^ythe courts of our God.

14  They still bear fruit in old age;

they are ever full of sap and green,

15  ^zto declare that the Lord is upright;

he is my ^arock, and there is ^bno unrighteousness in him.

1  I ^ylove the Lord, because he has ^zheard

my voice and my pleas for mercy.

2  Because he ^ainclined his ear to me,

therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

3  ^bThe snares of death encompassed me;

the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;

I suffered distress and anguish.

4  Then ^cI called on the name of the Lord:

“O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!”

5  ^dGracious is the Lord, and ^erighteous;

our God is ^fmerciful.

6  The Lord preserves ^gthe simple;

when ^hI was brought low, he saved me.

7  Return, O my soul, to your ⁱrest;

for the Lord has ^jdealt bountifully with you.

8  For ^kyou have delivered my soul from death,

my eyes from tears,

my feet from stumbling;

9  I will walk before the Lord

^lin the land of the living.

10  ^mI believed, ⁿeven when¹ I spoke:

“I am greatly afflicted”;
