Learning to Lament

When hardship comes and life is marked by a sorrowful experience, many Christians don’t know how to appropriately voice their pain. The psalms give us a language to express it. In the introduction to Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy: Discovering the Grace of Lament, Mark Vroegop says:

Although I had been a student of the Bible for many years, biblical lament was new for me. I didn’t even know what to call it at the time. I was merely trying to voice my fears and struggles while at the same time pointing my heart toward God. My quest for spiritual survival opened my heart to this historic and biblical form of prayer. Sorrow tuned my heart to hear the song of lament.

Learn the Language

Over the next five days, through readings adapted from Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy: Discovering the Grace of Lament by Mark Vroegop, explore how the psalms of lament and the book of Lamentations give voice to our pain and invite us to grieve, struggle, and tap into the rich reservoir of grace and mercy God offers in the darkest moments of our lives.
