1  Give ear to my words, O Lord;

consider my ^ugroaning.

2  Give attention to the sound of my cry,

my ^vKing and my God,

for ^wto you do I pray.

3  O Lord, in ^xthe morning you hear my voice;

in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you¹ and ^ywatch.

4  For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;

evil may not dwell with you.

5  The ^zboastful shall not ^astand before your eyes;

you ^bhate all evildoers.

6  You destroy those who speak ^clies;

the Lord abhors ^dthe bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

7  But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,

will enter your house.

I will ^ebow down ^ftoward your ^gholy temple

in the fear of you.

8  ^hLead me, O Lord, in your righteousness

because of my enemies;

ⁱmake your way straight before me.

9  For there is no truth in their mouth;

their inmost self is ^jdestruction;

^ktheir throat is ^lan open grave;

they ^mflatter with their tongue.

10  ⁿMake them bear their guilt, O God;

let them ^ofall by their own counsels;

because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,

for they have rebelled against you.

11  But let all who ^ptake refuge in you ^qrejoice;

let them ever sing for joy,

and spread your protection over them,

that those who love your name may ^rexult in you.

12  For you ^sbless the righteous, O Lord;

you ^tcover him with favor as with ^ua shield.

1  ^gThe ^hfool says in his heart, ⁱ“There is no God.”

They are ^jcorrupt, they do abominable deeds;

^kthere is none who does good.

2  The Lord ^llooks down from heaven on the children of man,

to see if there are any who understand,¹

who ^mseek after God.

3  They have all turned aside; together they have become ⁿcorrupt;

there is none who does good,

not even one.

4  Have they no ^oknowledge, all the evildoers

who ^peat up my people as they eat bread

and ^qdo not call upon the Lord?

5  There they are in great terror,

for God is with ^rthe generation of the righteous.

6  You would shame the plans of the poor,

but² the Lord is his ^srefuge.

7  Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!

When the Lord ^trestores the fortunes of his people,

let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

1  To you, O Lord, I call;

^jmy rock, be not deaf to me,

lest, if you ^kbe silent to me,

I become like those who ^lgo down to the pit.

2  ^mHear the voice of my pleas for mercy,

when I cry to you for help,

when I ⁿlift up my hands

^otoward your most holy sanctuary.¹

3  Do not ^pdrag me off with the wicked,

with the workers of evil,

^qwho speak peace with their neighbors

while evil is in their hearts.

4  ^rGive to them according to their work

and according to the evil of their deeds;

give to them according to the work of their hands;

^srender them their due reward.

5  Because they ^tdo not regard the works of the Lord

or the work of his hands,

he will tear them down and build them up no more.

6  Blessed be the Lord!

For he has ^uheard the voice of my pleas for mercy.

7  The Lord is my strength and ^vmy shield;

in him my heart ^wtrusts, and I am helped;

my heart exults,

and with my ^xsong I give thanks to him.

8  The Lord is the strength of his people;²

he is ^ythe saving refuge of his anointed.

9  Oh, save your people and bless ^zyour heritage!

^aBe their shepherd and ^bcarry them forever.

1  ^jIncline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,

for I am ^kpoor and needy.

2  Preserve my life, for I am ^lgodly;

save your servant, who ^mtrusts in you—you are my God.

3  ⁿBe gracious to me, O Lord,

for to you do I cry all the day.

4  Gladden the soul of your servant,

for ^oto you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

5  For you, O Lord, are good and ^pforgiving,

^qabounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

6  ^rGive ear, O Lord, to my prayer;

listen to my plea for grace.

7  In ^sthe day of my trouble I call upon you,

^tfor you answer me.

8  There is ^unone like you among the gods, O Lord,

^vnor are there any works like yours.

9  ^wAll the nations you have made shall come

and worship before you, O Lord,

and shall glorify your name.

10  For ^xyou are great and ^ydo wondrous things;

^zyou alone are God.

11  ^aTeach me your way, O Lord,

that I may ^bwalk in your truth;

^cunite my heart to fear your name.

12  I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,

and I will glorify your name forever.

13  ^dFor great is your steadfast love toward me;

you have ^edelivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14  O God, insolent men have ^frisen up against me;

a band of ruthless men seeks my life,

and they do not set you before them.

15  But you, O Lord, are a God ^gmerciful and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

16  ^hTurn to me and be gracious to me;

give your strength to ⁱyour servant,

and save ⁱthe son of your maidservant.

17  ^jShow me a sign of your ^kfavor,

that those who hate me may see and be put to shame

because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

1  ^tBe not silent, O ^uGod of my praise!

2  For wicked and ^vdeceitful mouths are opened against me,

speaking against me with lying tongues.

3  They encircle me with words of hate,

and attack me ^wwithout cause.

4  In return for my love they ^xaccuse me,

but I ^ygive myself to prayer.¹

5  So they ^zreward me evil for good,

and hatred for my love.

6  ^aAppoint a wicked man ^bagainst him;

let an accuser stand ^cat his right hand.

7  When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;

let his ^dprayer be counted as sin!

8  May his ^edays be few;

may ^fanother take his ^goffice!

9  May his ^hchildren be fatherless

and his wife a widow!

10  May his children ⁱwander about and beg,

^jseeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!

11  May ^kthe creditor seize all that he has;

may ^kstrangers plunder the fruits of his toil!

12  Let there be none to ^lextend kindness to him,

nor any to ^mpity his fatherless children!

13  May his ⁿposterity be cut off;

may his ^oname be blotted out in the second generation!

14  May ^pthe iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,

and let not the sin of his mother be ^qblotted out!

15  ^rLet them be before the Lord continually,

that he may ^scut off the memory of them from the earth!

16  For he did not remember to show kindness,

but pursued ^tthe poor and needy

and ^uthe brokenhearted, to put them to death.

17  ^vHe loved to curse; let curses come² upon him!

He did not delight in blessing; may it be far³ from him!

18  He ^wclothed himself with cursing as his coat;

may it ^xsoak⁴ into his body like water,

like oil into his bones!

19  May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,

like a belt that he puts on every day!

20  May this be the reward of my ^yaccusers from the Lord,

of those who speak evil against my life!

21  But you, O God my Lord,

deal on my behalf ^zfor your name’s sake;

because your ^asteadfast love is good, deliver me!

22  For I am ^bpoor and needy,

and my heart is stricken within me.

23  I am gone like ^ca shadow at evening;

I am ^dshaken off like a locust.

24  My knees are weak ^ethrough fasting;

my ^fbody has become gaunt, with no fat.

25  I am ^gan object of scorn to my accusers;

when they see me, they ^hwag their heads.

26  ⁱHelp me, O Lord my God!

Save me according to your steadfast love!

27  Let them ^jknow that this is your hand;

you, O Lord, have done it!

28  ^kLet them curse, but you will bless!

They arise and are put to shame, but ^lyour servant will be glad!

29  May my accusers be ^mclothed with dishonor;

may they ⁿbe wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!

30  With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;

I will ^opraise him in the midst of the throng.

31  For he stands ^pat the right hand of the needy one,

to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.
