4 And Jesus answered them, ^a“See that no one leads you astray. 5 For ^bmany will come in my name, saying, ‘I am ^cthe Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you ^dare not alarmed, for this ^emust take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For ^fnation will rise against nation, and ^gkingdom against kingdom, and there will be ^hfamines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of ⁱthe birth pains.

9 “Then ^jthey will deliver you up ^kto tribulation and ^lput you to death, and ^myou will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away¹ and ⁿbetray one another and hate one another. 11 And many ^ofalse prophets will arise ^pand lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, ^qthe love of many will grow cold. 13 ^rBut the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom ^swill be proclaimed throughout the whole world ^tas a testimony ^uto all nations, and ^vthen the end will come.

The Abomination of Desolation

15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation ^wspoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in ^xthe holy place (^ylet the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 ^zLet the one who is on ^athe housetop not go down to take what is in his house, 18 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 19 And ^balas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be ^cgreat tribulation, ^dsuch as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for ^ethe sake of the elect those days will be cut short. 23 ^fThen if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For ^gfalse christs and ^hfalse prophets will arise and ⁱperform great signs and wonders, ^hso as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, ^jI have told you beforehand. 26 So, if they say to you, ‘Look, ^khe is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 ^lFor as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be ^mthe coming of the Son of Man. 28 ⁿWherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

10 ^eBecause you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try ^fthose who dwell on the earth.

The Seven Seals

1 Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of ^ethe seven seals, and I heard ^fone of the four living creatures say ^gwith a voice like thunder, ^h“Come!” 2 And I looked, and behold, ⁱa white horse! And ^jits rider had a bow, and ^ka crown was given to him, and he came out ^lconquering, and to conquer.

3 When he opened the second seal, I heard ^mthe second living creature say, “Come!” 4 And out came another horse, ⁿbright red. Its rider was permitted ^oto take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.

5 When he opened the third seal, I heard the ^mthird living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, ^pa black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, ^q“A quart¹ of wheat for a denarius,² and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and ^rdo not harm the oil and wine!”

7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of ^mthe fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 And I looked, and behold, ^sa pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill ^twith sword and with famine and with pestilence and ^uby wild beasts of the earth.

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under ^vthe altar ^wthe souls of those who had been slain ^xfor the word of God and for ^ythe witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, ^zholy and true, ^ahow long ^bbefore you will judge and ^cavenge our blood on ^dthose who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then they were each given ^ea white robe and ^ftold to rest a little longer, ^guntil the number of their fellow servants and their brothers^{3 h}should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.

12 When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, ⁱthere was a great earthquake, and ^jthe sun became black as ^ksackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13 and ^lthe stars of the sky fell to the earth ^mas the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. 14 ⁿThe sky vanished ^mlike a scroll that is being rolled up, and ^oevery mountain and island was removed from its place. 15 Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave⁴ and free, ^phid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16 ^qcalling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of ^rhim who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17 for ^sthe great day of their wrath has come, and ^twho can stand?”

The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

1 When the Lamb opened ^uthe seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 Then I saw the seven angels ^vwho stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 3 And another angel came and stood ^wat the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with ^xthe prayers of all the saints on ^ythe golden altar before the throne, 4 and ^zthe smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. 5 Then the angel took the censer and ^afilled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and ^bthere were peals of ^cthunder, rumblings,¹ flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

The Seven Trumpets

6 Now the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.

7 The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed ^dhail and ^efire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a ^fthird of the earth was burned up, and a third of ^gthe trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like ^ha great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea ⁱbecame blood. 9 A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of ^jthe ships were destroyed.

10 The third angel blew his trumpet, and ^ka great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on ^lthe springs of water. 11 The name of the star is Wormwood.² A third of the waters ^mbecame wormwood, and many people died from the water, ⁿbecause it had been made bitter.

12 The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of ^othe sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night.

13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, ^p“Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”

1 And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and ^qI saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given ^rthe key to the shaft of ^sthe bottomless pit.¹ 2 He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft ^trose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and ^uthe sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft. 3 Then from the smoke came ^vlocusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. 4 They were told ^wnot to harm ^xthe grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have ^ythe seal of God on their foreheads. 5 They were allowed to torment them ^zfor five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone. 6 And in those days ^apeople will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.

7 ^bIn appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: ^con their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were ^dlike human faces, 8 their hair like women’s hair, and ^etheir teeth like lions’ teeth; 9 they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was ^flike the noise of many chariots with ^ghorses rushing into battle. 10 They have tails and stings like scorpions, and their power to hurt people ^hfor five months is in their tails. 11 They have ⁱas king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is ^jAbaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.²

12 ^kThe first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still to come.

13 Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice from ^lthe four horns of the golden altar before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release ^mthe four angels who are bound at ⁿthe great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released ^oto kill a third of mankind. 16 The number of ^pmounted troops was ^qtwice ten thousand times ten thousand; ^rI heard their number. 17 And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire³ and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were ^slike lions’ heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound.

20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, ^tdid not repent of ^uthe works of their hands nor give up worshiping ^vdemons ^wand idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, 21 nor did they repent of their murders or their ^xsorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling ^pthe seven angels, “Go and ^qpour out on the earth ^rthe seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful ^ssores came upon the people who bore ^tthe mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

3 The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and ^uit became like the blood of a corpse, and ^vevery living thing died that was in the sea.

4 The third angel poured out his bowl into ^wthe rivers and the springs of water, and ^xthey became blood. 5 And I heard the angel in charge of the waters¹ say,

7 And I heard ^ethe altar saying,

8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people ^gwith fire. 9 They were scorched by the fierce heat, and ^hthey cursed² the name of God who had power over these plagues. ⁱThey did not repent ^jand give him glory.

10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on ^kthe throne of the beast, and ^lits kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish 11 and cursed ^mthe God of heaven for their pain and ⁿsores. ^oThey did not repent of their deeds.

12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on ^pthe great river Euphrates, and ^qits water was dried up, ^rto prepare the way for the kings ^sfrom the east. 13 And I saw, coming out of the mouth of ^tthe dragon and out of the mouth of ^uthe beast and out of the mouth of ^vthe false prophet, three ^wunclean spirits like ^xfrogs. 14 For they are ^ydemonic spirits, ^zperforming signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, ^ato assemble them for battle on ^bthe great day of God the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, ^cI am coming like a thief! ^dBlessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, ^ethat he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) 16 And ^fthey assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called ^gArmageddon.

The Seventh Bowl

17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into ^hthe air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, ⁱ“It is done!” 18 And there were ^jflashes of lightning, rumblings,³ peals of thunder, and ^ka great earthquake ^lsuch as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 ^mThe great city ⁿwas split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God ^oremembered ^pBabylon the great, ^qto make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And ^revery island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And ^sgreat hailstones, about one hundred pounds⁴ each, fell from heaven on people; and ^tthey cursed God for ^uthe plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.
