17 And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad.

4 And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and ^fput a mark on the foreheads of the men who ^gsigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” 5 And to ^hthe others he said in my hearing, “Pass through the city after him, and strike. ⁱYour eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity. 6 ^jKill old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women, but ^ktouch no one on whom is the mark. And ^lbegin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the house.

6 But because I have said these things to you, ^gsorrow has filled your heart.

20 Truly, truly, I say to you, ^hyou will weep and lament, but ⁱthe world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but ^jyour sorrow will turn into joy. 21 ^kWhen a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 ^lSo also you have sorrow now, but ^mI will see you again, and ⁿyour hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
