12 zOn the north side their boundary began at the Jordan. aThen the boundary goes up to the shoulder north of Jericho, then up through the hill country westward, and it ends at the wilderness of bBeth-aven.
5 And the Philistines mustered to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and troops plike the sand on the seashore in multitude. They came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of qBeth-aven.
23 zSo the Lord saved Israel that day. And the battle passed beyond aBeth-aven.
15 Though you play the whore, O mIsrael,
let not mJudah become guilty.
nor go up to pBeth-aven,
and swear not, “As the Lord lives.”

5 The inhabitants of Samaria tremble
Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests—
those who rejoiced over it and yover its glory—
for it has departed2 from them.
