21  But ^jwild animals will lie down there,

and their houses will be full of howling creatures;

there ^kostriches¹ will dwell,

and there wild goats will dance.

14  ^qAnd wild animals shall meet with hyenas;

the wild goat shall cry to his fellow;

indeed, there the night bird¹ settles

and finds for herself a resting place.

37  and Babylon shall become ^ca heap of ruins,

^dthe haunt of jackals,

^ea horror ^eand a hissing,

without inhabitant.

14  ^yHerds shall lie down in her midst,

all kinds of beasts;¹

^zeven the owl and the hedgehog²

shall lodge in her capitals;

a voice shall hoot in the window;

devastation will be on the threshold;

for ^aher cedar work will be laid bare.

15  This is the exultant city

^bthat lived securely,

that said in her heart,

“I am, and there is no one else.”

What a desolation she has become,

^ca lair for wild beasts!

^dEveryone who passes by her

hisses and ^eshakes his fist.
